Trail Description: This is an easy 3 mile mountain trail about 19 miles North East of Waikiki used by hikers, bikers & horses. It is literally one of the only trails that allow horsebackriding on the island of Oahu. There are a few mountain trails that branch off from this trail also, but you can't go too far on horseback. Maunawili Ditch Trail climbs the mountain at a gentle grade on both ends of the trail for about 1/2 mile. This can be slippery in the winter due to mud from the rain. Once you are off the incline, the trail is level, yet winds in and out of the valleys through a deciduous forest with some giant moss-covered boulders, songbirds & sometimes parrots. There are a few mountain streams below the trail, but none that you have to cross. There is not much traffic and bicyclists are always kind enough to stop & let you pass. There are no horse rentals nearby, however, so you must own your own horse.
No camping permitted, with or without horse, unfortunately
