Trail Description: There are a couple of riding options available at this county park. The Wooded Horse Trails are a bit more scenic and shaded, but the park does close them down after rain to prevent wear and tear. They are also short, barely a day-ride. The Shaker Trace trail runs parallel to the outer loop of the paved hike-bike trail. It is very flat, and very much out in the open with almost no shade. A couple of creek crossings, and riders are expected to use the paved trail bridges - signs are posted to remind all trail users that horses have right-of-way on the bridge. On a busy weekend, expect to see a lot of trail users on the paved trail, including cyclists, rollerbladers, people with dogs, etc. Not the most extensive or exciting trail system, but it would be a good place to work with a young or green horse, or if you have a gaited horse.
The access to the Wooded Trails uses a different parking lot from the Shaker Trace horseman's parking. It involves a narrow paved road that goes back to a small parking area. Call (513) 728-3551 x332 to be sure the Wooded Trails are open, as the park does close access in wet weather. Shaker Trace parking is an open gravel lot with a grassy area, a couple of tie rails, and a portable toilet. There is a park use fee, call for more info.
