Trail Description: Big Fork Campground is located at Mount Helen Trailhead at Park Road, with several options for riding the Big South Fork Park. One of our favorite rides is on the O & W Railroad bed, alongside the White Oak River, the jewel of the park.
Over 200 miles of trails with overlooks, cliffs, bluffs, caves and creek crossings, giving it the distinction of “Horse riding capital of the southeast” by Trail Rider Magazine.
The trails range from short, easy, day rides, to long, challenging loops that may take several days to complete. We recommend that horses have shoes, as some areas can be rocky.
For the hikers, there are easy hikes along the Big South Fork River, to strenuous multiple-day hikes, including sections of the John Muir National Recreation Trail which pass through the park. The Honey Creek hiking trail is one of the top hikes in the state and is only 10 minutes away by car.
Big Fork Campground is a new 10-site campground located directly on the Mount Helen trailhead in the Big South Fork Park. We offer state-of-the-art facilities, with (8) 14 x 14 bedded stalls,(4) 12x12 stalls, (2) 20x11 shelters corral panels. Visit us at BigForkCampground.com
