Trail Description: 28 miles of horse trails, generally several degrees cooler than the lower part of SC. Shady trails without too much volunteer trail damage and minimal re-routing on gravel. Fat and old horses may want to skip these trails as the climbs can be long and occasionally a bit steep. River crossing of the Chattooga river are beautiful. Novice riders may find the ride intimidating. Ride a counter clockwise loop and parallel the river to watch canoes, rafts, and kayaks drifting along.
BEWARE, rains on this steep terrain can make rivers rise several feet in a few hours!
Whetstone Horse Camp is a great getaway for horseback riders who like to ride and camp. It serves as a base camp for riders on both the Rocky Gap (South Carolina) and the Willis Knob (Georgia) horse trails.
