Trail Description: There are two main trails out of the horsemens camp, blue which is considered outbound and white which is inbound. These trails are connected by red trails to make your ride shorter if desired, and numbered loops that give you views of the lake. There are a couple of stream crossings that have solid footing and wildlife is abundant. There is also a connecting trail to the Salamonie State Forest which provides more trails to the parks. Three miles out of camp is a short trail that leads to a local camp store that has camping supplies and serves food, i.e. breakfast, hamburgers, ice cream etc. You can tie your horse and picnic there too. Make sure you pick up the map with the numbered trails marked on it for there are two trail maps. This link is the map without the numbered trails. https://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/files/sp-salamonie__bridle_trail_map.pdf
The primitive campground is nice with pit toilets, and water scattered throughout the campground. There aren't many shady sites but several offer either afternoon or morning sun. There are no showers but might be able to drive to people campground, ask at gate. According to staff there are plans in the future to electrify sites but no date on that as yet.
