Trail Description |
Best kept secret around! Miles and miles of trails to ride on, in unlimited choices of loops. Longest official trail is 12 miles, but truly, the choices are endless. Footing mostly grass or sand, with only a few areas of deep sand, mostly perfect footing. Extremely well-marked, with road signs at every intersection, lots of highly visible blazes through the woods. No worries about getting lost here! |

Campground |
There are three campsites, two are smaller but have easy access to restrooms and shower (according to website, I've never looked for it), one is a larger group site by the fire tower that actually has 3 gravel pads and lots of extra yard space. A central water spigot in the group site, no electric, no specific horse facilities but there are numerous trees to highline. Management is equestrian-friendly! |

Directions |
Cary State Forest is located in northeastern Florida near Jacksonville in Nassau and Duval Counties.
Directions from Jacksonville: Take I-10 to the Baldwin/US 301 exit. In Baldwin, drive North on U.S. Hwy. 301 for 7 miles. Watch for the turns in Baldwin. When you get to Bryceville, you will go under a caution light and pass by a fire station on your right. Stay on U.S. Hwy. 301. We are on the right 0.5 miles past the fire station. You will see the green Cary State Forest sign. Turn down the dirt road (Pavilion Road) and drive to the grass parking area (for day parking), or turn right at end for fire tower parking (that's where there's room for horses).
Directions from Callahan: In Callahan, drive South on US Hwy. 301 for 13 miles. When you pass Ford Road, you only have 2.5 miles remaining. Don’t turn in at the Florida Forest Service District office. Continue past it, and watch for the green Cary State Forest sign at the entrance. Turn left on the dirt road (Pavilion Rd.), and drive down to the grass parking area(for day parking), or turn right at end for fire tower parking (that's where there's room for horses).
