Trail Description In Tahoe National Forest, elevation from approx. 3500' to 5000' ranging from easy to challenging; several hundred miles of marked and unmarked trails crossing creeks and rivers

Campground Campground is among tall pines, very shady and cool in summer (about 5000' elev.) has 8 sites with corrals for $15/night; all sites have hitching posts, campfire pits, cooking grates; drinking water and watering troughs for stock throughout grounds. Definitely bear country so be aware and keep food stowed.

Directions I-80 from Sacramento, Ca head East(towards Reno)-at Auburn take Hwy. 49 to Grass Valley, 24 miles; 3 miles further, at Nevada City, 49 will turn left going to Downieville but go straight and there it becomes hwy. 20. Skillman Flat is about 13 miles from Nevada City on the right. It is clearly marked with a campground sign

(Gently sloping or level terrain; trails are groomed or wide open; shallow or no creek crossings. ) 
 More Difficult (Moderate hills over consistent surface; possibly some narrow trails and short steeper slopes) 
 Rigorous (Easy to More Difficult for rider but physically challenging for horse such as on a level surface through deep sand) 
 Challenging (Possible rocky, uneven surface, steep slopes, uncleared trails, faster flowing streams and other obstacles that lead to more difficult riding for rider and horse)
