Trail Description Nice, easy trails. Usually well marked. Some ATV sign damage, here too. Can take trails all the way to Mule Springs if you want (more difficult). Water in the creek in spring and fall (and if it rains). Nicely forested.
Best Time to Visit Spring, summer and fall
Times to Avoid Winter, unless you want to ski. (Stable closed in winter)
Campground Camping available outside Pinetop at the equestrian center. Coming from Payson, go thru Pinetop on 260, take a left on Elk Ridge Rd. (Big elk sign on granite on the left). Go a couple miles, look for stable and horse trailers/campers on your right. If you get to the fire station or the RoundHouse Resort, you went too far. (Great Spring roping on Labor Day weekend). Call in advance on holidays. Nice folks, good water, nice warm up pen, stalls and stabling available for extra fee. If you get there after dark, find a spot and talk to 'em in the morning. DO NOT WAKE 'EM UP. They won't mind.
